The Little Mermaid Play at Watervliet Jr./Sr. High School

This year our school will be performing Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”. This is one of my all time favorite movies! When I was a kid I was always a big fan of Ursula. Not surprisingly most kids favorite character is Ariel because she is a sweet little mermaid and quite frankly more appealing than Ursula who is a squid/octopus. Ursula is the evil character, but I guess her evil instincts are due to past experiences. Enough of my personal take on “The Little Mermaid” let’s get back to the musical! The musical is produced by the one and only Ms.Becker! She recently held auditions and cast the roles. The students are very enthusiastic about the upcoming performance. I’ve spoken with one cast member who is actually playing multiple parts. Leighamber Loeper is playing Aquata, one of the Scuttle’s friends. Leighamber is a junior who seems very excited about the play. She enjoys being with her cast and crew and learning the ins and outs of being in a musical production. She also feels like the cast has become a close-knit group that she considers family.
By the sounds of it, Ms. Becker and her crew have created a magical rendition of a childhood movie favorite. Now that you have a glimpse of this special, carefully practiced production what better way to kick off the year than to support our students! Come sit back, relax, and watch “The Little Mermaid” Friday, March 9th-Sunday March 11th at the Watervliet High School auditorium. I hope to see you there!!!
